Grandma taught
Bromley’s Lemon Verbena soap in the shape of a lemon.
Lifeboy pink, a very respectable soap. Carbolic soap, if you swore you’d have
it on your tongue. Sunlight soap.
The smell of the gas lamp at my grandmother's, lighting a
single gas mantle in the room.
